I walked into our neighborhood pool with a plan on May 26th... I was gonna swim 3-4x per week. A reasonable goal I could stick with. Well, I didn't stick to it. I did better. I kept showing up. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Today, I finished my 100th consecutive day in that pool. 100 days in a row. I'm down 20 lbs. I was down 24 lbs last week, but Ava's bday was on Sunday, and I ate like a pig last weekend (damn you Cheesecake Factory!) and packed on some pounds that I'm still struggling to shed. Here's what no one tells you about that streak... It ain't about will power on day 100. Swimming is just part of my day. Like showering. Or walking 12,000 steps. Or brushing my teeth. Or eating 3 eggs for lunch and dinner. There were some days I didn't want to go. I was tired, sick, didn't feel like it, FILL-IN-THE-BLANK, but I showed up anyway. I have the "every day is the Super Bowl" mindset. This be the game. Whether it be in the pool, parenting or business. Most come up with some grand plan and ditch it by week 3 when it gets hard (or the dopamine wears off). The one's who make lasting change aren't the ones who have a better plan, but are the ones who show up on the days they don't want to. 100 days ago I wasn't sure I'd make it past day 4 or 5. Today I know exactly what showing up looks like when no one's watching or cheering from the sidelines. I'm just a guy who got in that pool 100 days in a row and dropped 20 lbs along the way. Man... You guys & gals are amazing. Here's a peek into my inbox from yesterday... Just an outpouring of love. Sure does make a 45 year old man, with an obsession with egg nog, Reese's peanutbutter eggs, and Oreo blizzards from Dairy Queen, feel good. THANK YOU!!! I greatly appreciate you! I'll be honest...I almost didn't hit send yesterday. 23 days of silence is a hard thing to explain, and an even harder thing to admit you don't have a good excuse for. But every single reply told me the same...
23 days. That's how many days since I sent an email. I missed one day. That turned into 5 days. Then 23 days. Then I panicked..."What do I say?" My buddy Kerry texted me about it on August 19th: He was right. 13 days later, I'm finally taking his advice. I apologize for ghosting you, Reader I pride myself on daily emails. I'd sent one every single day since late July 2025, minus one. March 9th. That's the day I got a call from my daughter's school. Mental health crisis. Her mom and I ran up...
Ashton turned 11 this morning. We have a tradition to keep. The kids are at their Mom's this week, so it sucked not waking up and giving him a big ol' hug & kiss. We started a tradition a few years back. We do it on his bday and Ava's (her bday is the 30th of this month). We go to Dunkin Donuts for some sweet treats. On the way there, we blast "In Da Club" by 50 Cent (It's your birthday...). Ava couldn't make it today, as she had bad cramps, but the tradition still stood for Ashton. When you...
