I'd rather eat a bus tire

I made a joke on Threads earlier this week...

I bet I could double my income if I hired DM setters, closers, and close people on $5K packages.

Hell, I know people doing 7-figures with that exact model.

But here's the thing...

I have zero desire for that kinda business.

Not because sales calls don't work.

I'm 44, and a Solo Dad of two. No, thanks.

I build my YOUniverse around one simple rule:

I only do things I actually want to do.

No sales calls.

No setters or closers.

I'd rather earn $100k doing what I truly enjoy over $500k doing what I cannot stand.

That's MY YOUniverse.

Establishing your YOUniverse might be one of the best things you do as a creator.

If you build your business (and many do, sadly) around someone else's values, lifestyle, goals, or business model....usually a recipe for burnout.

I see SO many introverts trying to build personal brands.

The Dad building the business model that requires 60 hours of hustle.

Misalignment = Misery. Burnout.

Build your business to fit YOUR life, Reader.

Here’s how to establish your YOUniverse in 3 steps:

Audit Your Values: Write down what actually matters to you.

Family time? Freedom? Impact? Authenticity?

For me?

It’s coaching my son’s flag football team, walking 10,000 steps daily, and never missing dinner with my family. Sales calls don’t fit that. So I don’t do them. And I just don't like them. I wasn't good at them, and had no desire to get better at them.

Design Your Ideal Lifestyle Get SPECIFIC.

What does your dream day look like? What do you want to spend money on?

I wanted last-minute Universal Studios trips with my kids. Weekend getaways without asking permission.

That required a certain income level. But it didn't require millions.

Match Your Business Model to BOTH This is where most people fu*k it up.

They see someone killing it with webinars, so they force themselves to do webinars... even though they hate being on camera.

They see someone crushing it with coaching, so they start booking calls... even though they'd rather eat a whole bus tire 😜

Your business model should serve your values AND your lifestyle.

What's the point of making money if you hate how you're making it?

So I say "no thanks" to sales calls.

Not because I'm better than anyone who does them.

But because I know my YOUniverse.

And once you establish yours, everything gets easier.

If you're stuck, overwhelmed, or feeling like you're building someone else's dream...

Stop.

Audit your values. Design your lifestyle. Match your business model to both.

Establish your YOUniverse.

Then build from there.

When you're ready to create an offer that fits YOUR life (not someone else's blueprint)....

I started writing the 3 Hour Creator in July. Spent 3-4 weeks on it. Never finished it (I'm a starter, not a finisher...can anyone relate?!) Revisited the idea in November. Wrote 5 variations. Wrote 5 different variations. Some are only a dozen pages. Some are full guides. None felt quite right. I had the idea to turn it into a Lovable app around Thanksgiving. Worked on that all December. Launched earlier this month. Got good feedback from some. Some needed more clarification/context on...

A creator I respect DM'd me earlier this afternoon. This guy made a million last year selling digital products. He doesn't sell anything priced over $47, which is impressive AF. All organic, too. Just simple offers that solve real problems. Here's the part of the DM that hit differently... He said he loves "how I carry myself." Not my funnel or tips & tricks. How I carry myself. That felt really good to read. Because most creators are trying to be someone else. Copying the viral videos, or...

I slid in her DMs last night... Do you ever run ads? If not, you should since you get great engagement on your stuff She said she's boosted a few posts in the past. She's a friend of mine who does well on Instagram (great engagement and sales). I suggested she set up a few custom audiences. Custom audience = An ad targeting option that lets you find your existing audiences (website visits, social media following/engagers, viewed videos, etc) This is what I suggested: Create an audience for...
